Balham High Road is busy but straightforward, the residential streets off Bedford Hill are wide and quiet, and Morden test centre is only four miles away down the A24. Learners here tend to progress steadily rather than hitting the wall that Clapham or Wandsworth traffic can cause early on.
The local challenge is parking rather than moving traffic. SW12 is dense Victorian and Edwardian housing with permit bays on almost every street, and the gaps are tight. Reverse parking on a real Balham street with a car waiting behind you is harder than anything the examiner will ask, which is exactly why we practise there.

Your instructor meets you at an agreed meeting point in SW12 — Balham Underground and railway station is a common one. The lesson clock starts when you get in the car.

Balham sits between Clapham to the north and Tooting to the south, in the London Borough of Wandsworth, built around the long run of Balham High Road. It is largely Victorian and Edwardian terraced housing with pockets of 1930s mansion blocks, of which Du Cane Court is the best known.
