Hammersmith is dominated by two pieces of road infrastructure: the gyratory around the Broadway and the A4 flyover running west towards Chiswick and the M4. Between them they make this one of the more intimidating places in West London to learn, and also one of the most thorough. A learner who is comfortable on the Hammersmith gyratory has already handled something harder than most test routes contain.
Away from those two, the area is more forgiving than its reputation. King Street is a normal busy high street, Brook Green and the Ravenscourt Park streets are quiet and residential, and there is plenty of space to build the basics before going anywhere near the Broadway. We structure lessons so the gyratory comes late, deliberately.

Multi-lane, fast, and with exits arriving in quick succession around a bus station and a shopping centre. Lane choice must be settled well before entry. The hardest single piece of road in our coverage area, and a genuine confidence milestone.
The main shopping street, with bus lanes, loading vehicles and pedestrians crossing between parked cars. Steady, demanding urban driving without the intensity of the gyratory.
Fast dual carriageway heading west, with slip roads and lane changes at speed. Extremely useful practice, since very few of our areas offer a road like this on the doorstep.
The route north, mixing busy sections with quieter stretches around the green. Good for junction work and for building sustained concentration at moderate speed.
Quiet residential roads west of King Street, used for first lessons and manoeuvre practice. Wide enough to be forgiving, with real parking bays to reverse into.

Your instructor picks you up from your door anywhere in W6 or W14, or from a meeting point that suits you — Hammersmith Underground station is a common one. The lesson clock starts when you get in the car, not when we set off.
A quick number-plate read at 20 metres, the same check the examiner does on test day, and we take a look at your provisional licence. Two minutes, once, on your first lesson only.
We drive to The Ravenscourt Park streets and go through the controls with the engine off — seat, mirrors, pedals, gears and steering. You will not be asked to move the car until you know what everything does.
