Vauxhall is defined by its gyratory, one of the busiest and most complex junction systems in South London. Several major roads, a bus station, a railway viaduct and a heavily used cycle superhighway all converge within a few hundred metres. It is a serious piece of road, and learning to handle it properly is the main thing a Vauxhall learner gains.
That reputation makes the area sound harder than it is day to day. Away from Vauxhall Cross, the streets around Kennington and South Lambeth are ordinary residential roads, and the Albert Embankment gives you a long, open riverside run that is genuinely pleasant to drive. We build up through those before going near the gyratory.

Your instructor meets you at an agreed meeting point in SW8 — Vauxhall Underground and railway station is a common one. The lesson clock starts when you get in the car.

Vauxhall sits on the south bank of the Thames in the London Borough of Lambeth, directly opposite Pimlico and Westminster. It has changed enormously in the last fifteen years, with the tower development around Nine Elms and the new US Embassy transforming what was largely industrial land.
