Several major roads, a bus station, a railway viaduct and a heavily used cycle superhighway all converge within a few hundred metres. Away from Vauxhall Cross, the streets around Kennington and South Lambeth are ordinary residential roads, and the Albert Embankment gives you a long, open riverside run that is genuinely pleasant to drive. Your instructor picks you up from your door anywhere in SW8, or from a meeting point that suits you — Vauxhall Underground and railway station is a common one. The lesson clock starts when you get in the car, not when we set off.

Vauxhall sits on the south bank of the Thames in the London Borough of Lambeth, directly opposite Pimlico and Westminster. It has changed enormously in the last fifteen years, with the tower development around Nine Elms and the new US Embassy transforming what was largely industrial land.
